India is the second fastest developing economy after China. It is regarded as a vital market for securing international opportunities, and SCDI has organised annual visits over recent years.

Delhi will act as host to the commonwealth Games in 2010, raising its international profile further and extending the opportunities available to Glasgow business in advance of 2014. SCDI has contributed to the Scottish Government's consultations on its India Plan, and maintains an active interest in promoting business between Scotland and India. The visit will also take place approx 10 months out from the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, where a significant portion of the visit will focus on economic opportunities from the Games and building business networks in advance of October.

SCDI will organise a trade visit to Delhi and Mumbai during the week 18 - 22 January 2010. This visit will allow Glasgow companies to undertake market research, to visit existing customers and seek to develop new business relationships. Additional opportunities exist across a range of sectors including construction, financial services, energy, engineering, creative industries, retail, and education. Glasgow businesses are well positioned to take advantage of these growing opportunities.
