Land Securities have secured approval for its £70m Atlas retail development in Glasgow city centre after securing an anchor pre-let and updated planning consent.

Work on the redevelopment of the Atlas site, at 185 to 221 Buchanan Street has now started and is expected to be completed by March 2013.

Commercial property developer Land Securities, which owns Buchanan Galleries in the city, expects around 100 construction jobs to be created during the building and fit out phase.

US-based youth fashion brand, Forever 21, will anchor the development with a 60,000 ft² shop which will be its first in Scotland and third in the UK. The development will include another two large stores, eight shops and restaurant units, and 49 apartments. Gap and Paperchase have also expressed an interest in retail space at the development.
