The £523m Queen’s Dock Project development, named QD2 because it marks the second redevelopment of Queens Dock in Glasgow, plans to transform the Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre’s (SECC) 64-acre site into a complete exhibition, conference and entertainments complex.
The first major QD2 development will be the creation of The Scottish National Arena. The focus is on providing a world-class arena for Scotland with superb sightlines and excellent acoustics, seating up to 12,000 and with the flexibility to create numerous seating configurations for concerts and other spectator events.
The £125m Arena is at the centre of the SECC’s wider QD2 masterplan. It is anticipated that it has the potential to inject £131 million into the local economy and create 2,449 jobs, adding to the £347 million and 6,755 jobs generated by the SECC at present.
Other elements include multi-storey car parks, a hotel and other improvements to the civic realm.
"The Arena will make SECC unique in Europe by having a purpose built exhibition centre, conference centre and arena all on one site."
