The regeneration of Oatlands is Scotland's second largest single community regeneration scheme (and possibly the UK's third biggest currently underway). Work on the 32.2 hectare site started in April 2005 and the eventual development value is estimated at £212m.
The main aim of the development is to create a high quality neighbourhood containing 1,290 new houses (1,077 private and 213 for social rental). The scheme involves:
The whole development is being undertaken by a development consortium led by Gladedale, and opportunities remain for future involvement by other house builders.
The regeneration of Oatlands is planned to take place in nine phases. Work is well underway on both of the first phases, including 265 private houses and extensive road works. All of the social-rented housing content has been completed and, in addition, work has started on some Phase 3 properties. The construction activity on the Oatlands regeneration site will tie in with the completion of the M74 in August 2011 at which time the developing neighbourhood will enjoy direct access to the British motorway network.
