Maryhill Burgh Hall and Police Station

Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust has achieved a grant funding package totalling £9.2m and comprising allocations from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Big Lottery Fund, Historic Scotland, Town Centre Regeneration Fund, Glasgow City Council and Scottish Government's Housing and Regeneration Directorate, to restore the derelict Maryhill Burgh Halls. The project will see the Burgh Halls and adjacent former police station not only transformed into a hub for community life but also become a key element in the wider regeneration of the surrounding area.

The listed buildings will be retained and extended to form a modern public hall, café, 11 offices, a commercial and a community recording studio, nursery, meeting rooms and public garden. The contract has been awarded and work starts on site on 9th November 2009 with an anticipated 18 month period to completion. Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust will take ownership of the building and responsibility for maintenance and letting of accommodation.

Maryhill Leisure Centre Project

The restoration of Maryhill Burgh Halls and Police Station will complement the adjacent development of a new swimming pool and leisure facility by Glasgow City Council which will be managed by Culture and Sport Glasgow.

The new facility will have a 25m swimming pool, health suite, sports hall, fitness suite and dance studio. The historic facade of the former fire station will form a common arched entrance courtyard to both the Burgh Halls and the Leisure Centre.

The refurbishment contract is expected to be completed by the end of 2009 with fitting out taking place immediately afterwards. The Leisure Centre will open in spring of 2010.
